Amish-Built Bookcases

Our solid wood bookcases can be separated into 3 categories: made-to-measure, economy, or curated collections. No matter which you choose, you’ll get your choice of wood and stain, just like all our Amish built furniture.

All bookcases are hand-crafted in the USA using time-tested construction techniques and hand-rubbed finishes for a luxurious piece of furniture. Read on to learn more.

Made-to-Measure Collections

Our made-to-measure bookcase lines give you the most options for a truly personalized piece of furniture. We have several different builders who offer similar lines, and your options will vary from builder to builder. Basically, you start by specifying your width, usually offered in six-inch increments, and height, usually offered in twelve-inch increments. Next, you choose your trim & panel styles. Finally, add upgrades like wood or glass doors.

Of all the made-to-measure bookcase lines, you’ll get the most options from Steve, one of our Amish builders. Steve offers his bookcases as small as 18in W x 30in H, or as large as 60in W x 96in H. In addition to choosing your width and height, Steve is the only builder who offers a choice of depths (measured front to back). Steve offers six styles, which consist of matched crown molding and base trim, however, these trim styles can be mixed-and-matched on request (for example, you could choose the Traditional base trim with the Shaker crown molding.) Finally, determine if you want doors. Steve can add wood or glass doors in your choice of configuration – full-height, bottom only, or split (wood doors on the bottom, wood or glass doors on the top.) If you choose to add doors, you will also get to choose your knobs or handles.

Economy Lines

Our economy lines are available for those who don’t mind giving up some features but still want durable and reliable American-made furniture. Economy bookcases are typically offered in fewer sizes. Amish-made plywood is often used on the sides as an affordable alternative. The bookcases may lack details like return trim. Moldings, when present, are simpler and smaller.

But don’t confuse “economy” with “junk!” These bookcases are still built with solid wood tops, bases, and fronts. Our builders still use mortise-and-tenon construction and exquisite hand-rubbed finishes. Plus, the upgrades are still available. Add that return trim, upgrade to solid sides, or add doors. These are still built-to-order bookcases with tons of options to fit your style, needs, and budget.

Curated Bookcases

These include some of our most beautiful bookcases. Our curated bookcases feature more ornate designs and more decorative elements. Because of this, they are offered in fewer sizes and with fewer options. Many come standard with premium features like doors and lights.

Our Builders, Your Ideas

Bookcases, by nature, are extremely versatile and can be used in many different rooms and for many different purposes. Thus, it’s quite common for our builders to accommodate special requests to modify their existing designs. For example, you may want a design that involves two or more bookcases arranged adjacent to each other, and in these cases we can have our builders cut moldings and trim to fit. In other cases, we can add punch-outs to accommodate wires, or even add a finished back for a room-divider solution.
