Best of 2017
What a year it’s been! 2017 marks our 15th year in business, providing the greater Pittsburgh area with only the best hardwood Amish furniture, all built-to-order in the USA. It’s been a very exciting year, with new introductions and a resurgence in a few old favorites. Below is the Best of 2017 – let us know what your favorites were this year.
Wood & Stain
Gold Star: Rustic Cherry in Michael’s stain

Cherry is often considered the finest of the fruitwoods. It is a naturally rich, smooth-grained hardwood. It comes in both top-grain and rustic variety. When building in the top-grain variety, or craftsmen carefully select the most consistent boards. On the other hand, when a customer selects rustic cherry, the builders don’t sort out the boards with irregularities, meaning that the furniture will show knots, pits, and other irregularities intrinsic to natural wood. This rustic quality takes on a more relaxed feel, perfect for many of today’s most popular styles.

Michael's stain is a translucent medium-red stain that highlights these natural inconsistencies. It is our most popular stain color this year, also being used on oak, brown maple, elm, and quartersawn white oak.
Honorable Mention: Brown Maple with Rich Tobacco stain

Popular with younger customers and on contemporary styles, brown maple is a smooth hardwood with a varying grain pattern from board to board. These variations remain visible even with our darkest stains. Rich tobacco is our darkest brown stain.
Kitchen & Dining Room Furniture
Gold Star, Dining Tables: Abbington Live Edge Dining Table
Abbington Live Edge Table, shown in walnut with natural finish
The Abbington Live Edge Table is the newest introduction from our old friend Irvin. If you are looking for something totally unique, these natural edge tables feature one-of-a-kind slabs on sturdy metal bases. Live edge wood tables are perfect for injecting an industrial flair to your home décor.
Gold Star, Dining Chair: Brookfield
Kara’s Dining Room – Brookfield Chairs in Brown Maple with Onyx stain and fabric seats.

A few years ago, one of our favorite customers, Kara, was looking for a specific style of chair for her dining room. We knew what she had in mind, so when we saw something similar at that year’s Hardwood Furniture Market, we ordered one to display on our floor. Now, this chair, and it’s matching bar stools, is our best-selling style in 2017. It’s contemporary and comfortable, attractive and not imposing. It’s no wonder Kara’s one of our favorites!

Bedroom Furniture
Gold Star: Empire Mission Bedroom Furniture Collection
Empire Mission Bedroom Furniture Collection, shown in Quartersawn White Oak with Michael’s stain
With an unmistakable look cherished for its enduring style and beauty, our Empire Mission bedroom furniture collection features the simple lines and grounded structure you expect from craftsman style. Mission style is a perennial favorite, especially when built in quartersawn white oak – choose the rustic variety for a casual room, or the top-grain for a stunning suite.
We show this bedroom collection with a storage bed, actually the best-selling bed of the year. Any of our beds can be built with storage drawers, but this style, along with all beds from this builder, is available with your choice of 4 different configurations of under-bed storage.

Living Room Furniture
Gold Star: Berlin Entertainment Wall
Berlin Entertainment Wall, shown in Rustic Cherry with Boston stain
Entertainment wall units dropped off in popularity nearly two decades ago with the introduction of flat-screen TVs. Once useful for obscuring the eyesore that is a TV turned off, old-style entertainment centers were too big and bulky for our sleek new sets. Nowadays, entertainment walls are designed sleeker, with a smaller footprint. Styles like the Berlin are especially nice, with smaller side units, it doesn’t overwhelm your room.
Office Furniture
Gold Star: Arlington Office Furniture Collection
Arlington L-Shaped Desk, shown in Brown Maple with Michaels stain
Arlington is a transitional style with just the right amount of detailing for a look that’s classic but not ornate. Its popularity is undoubtedly boosted by its large array of options. The Arlington is offered in both an executive office collection as well as a versatile modular office collection.
Polish Pottery
Of course, we couldn’t talk about 2017 without mentioning our new Polish Pottery! This addition to our store was inspired by the owner’s trip to Ohio Amish country this past spring. After seeing how popular it is in our builders’ community, we decided it would be a great addition to our furniture store. Although it is not made in America like our furniture, it is handmade, hand painted, and of the top quality.
Gold Star: Crimson Bell Polish Pottery Pattern
Honorable Mention: Bleeding Heart Polish Pottery Pattern
We’re eternally grateful to our 15 years’ worth of wonderful customers who make the choice to buy quality American furniture and support our small, local business. What were your favorites this year, and what trends are you looking forward to in 2018?
