Best of 2018
And another year has flown past! 2018 has been a very exciting year here at The Amish Home. The big story of the year is our new showroom. In July, we relocated to a bigger space in the Pittsburgh Mills mall. Now we have nearly double the space, which has allowed us to bring in 5 new dinettes, 3 new bedrooms, plus new office suites, more children’s furniture, and so much more!
We’re so thankful to our customers for trusting us to furnish your Pittsburgh homes with beautiful Amish-crafted hardwood furniture, made in the USA. Below is the Best of 2018 – what were your favorites this year?
Wood & Stain
First Place: TIE – Rustic Cherry with Asbury Stain, and Cherry with Michael’s Stain
The Farmhouse Bedroom Furniture Collection, shown in Rustic Cherry with Asbury stain
Shown without optional reclaimed barn oak tops
Cherry is a smooth, even-grained hardwood, often considered the finest of the fruitwoods. Known for its warm, rich color, cherry wood will mellow and darken with age. Rustic cherry will include pieces with knots, pits, and other natural markings. All cherry wood may have some mineral streaks, pitch pockets, or sapwood.
The Barn Floor Living Room Table Collection, shown in Rustic Cherry with Asbury Stain
Asbury is a relatively new stain, having been introduced in 2013. While most traditional cherry stains are predominantly red-toned, Asbury is a darn brown. It is a translucent stain, meaning that you’ll still see the wood grain pattern through the color. Asbury on Rustic Cherry works well with many popular décor styles, like a refined farmhouse or rustic lodge. Asbury is very popular on just about all of our hardwood species, including red oak, brown maple, and quartersawn white oak.
The Antique Shaker Jewelry Box Cheval Mirror is shown in Cherry with Michaels Stain
On the other hand, Michaels stain is one of our oldest stains, and perhaps our most popular of all time. It is a warm, rich red stain, used on all of our hardwood species. Like Asbury, it is a translucent stain, which allows more of the wood grain’s pattern to show through.
Second Place: Two-tone finishes
The Millcreek Dining Room with Sierra Chair is shown in Brown Maple with Onyx and Michaels stains
Two-toning gives you double the opportunity to express your personality in your furniture selections. The two stain colors can be on the same wood species, or on different woods for a variety in texture as well as color. Just about any dining table can be done in a two-tone finish, and most of our chairs can have a contrasting color added to the seat.
The Belmont Dining Room is shown in Brown Maple with Onyx stain and Elm with Michaels stain
There are some specialty collections that allow extra options for two-toning. Our Belmont Dining Room is an example. Notice how the dining chairs feature elm on the top rail, as well as on the seat, and the cabinets feature elm tops and doors. Our store associates can help you find products that can be two-toned in unique ways.
Kitchen & Dining Room Furniture
Dining Tables: Abbington Live Edge Dining Table
The Abbington Live Edge Dining Room Furniture Collection is shown in Walnut with natural finish
There’s plenty we could say about the Abbington Live Edge Dining Table, but this is a design that really speaks for itself. By retaining the tree’s natural edge, this table top tells its history. Most popular in walnut, it is also available in wormy maple, rustic cherry, and elm. The builder has just announced new base options for 2019 (view them here).
Dining Chairs: Mason Chair
The Mason Side Chair is shown in Brown Maple with Coffee stain with a wood seat
Mason is a versatile little chair that fits with most styles and homes. Its style is mission in spirit, without the many mullions and slats that have become synonymous with the budget mission furniture in the big box stores. It’s a comfortable mid-size chair, so it “fits” most people well. It’s included in our Millcreek Express sets, usually available on our next truck, where you can get an expanding table and 4 Mason chairs in brown maple for only $1495 plus tax and delivery.
China Cabinet: English Shaker
The English Shaker 3-Door China Cabinet is shown in Quartersawn White Oak with Michaels stain
A timeless design that never goes out of style. The English Shaker Dining Room Collection features arched panel styling, beveled glass, and gracefully curved legs. It comes standard with a solid tongue-and-groove back (sometimes called shiplap) but is popular with a flat laminated back. Durable dovetail drawers are installed on full extension concealed undermount soft-close drawer slides, and it comes standard with recessed lighting with a touch-switch control.
Bedroom Furniture
First Place: Marcella Bedroom Furniture Collection
The Marcella Bedroom Furniture Collection is shown in Rustic Cherry with Asbury stain
Gorgeous styling hides smart features on our Marcella bedroom furniture collection. Hide your precious treasures in velvet-lined jewelry drawers, concealed in the moldings of dressers and bureau with a push-to-open mechanism. The top of the nightstands slide forward to real more hidden storage, ideal for personal security. The Marcella Panel Bed is incredibly popular with our underbed storage drawer rail units, for added storage space while maintaining the visual lightness of a standard bed.
Living Room Furniture
First Place: Garnet Hill Living Room Furniture
The Open Garnet Hill Living Room Furniture Collection is shown in Brown Maple with Rich Cherry stain
The detailed moldings on the inset drawers on the Garnet Hill give just enough depth and dimension to give the collection rich character without too much gingerbread. Choose the Open Garnet Hill option for a visually lighter room, or the enclosed version for extra storage where you need it most.
Office Furniture
First Place: Buckingham Office Furniture Collection
The Buckingham Office Furniture Collection is shown in Cherry with Washington stain
If you're looking for timeless beauty that defies trends, look to the clean lines and lustrous finishes of the Buckingham Office Furniture collection. The fluted corner posts are classic design elements used by ancient Greek artisans, who may have been inspired by the look of natural tree trunks. This suite offers a huge selection of desk shaped, including an L-Desk, a U-Desk, and even a Partner Desk, plus credenzas, files (vertical and lateral), and a bookcase.
That’s it for our best of 2018! That’s again to all of our loyal customers for your continued support. What were your favorites this year? What trends are you looking forward to next year?
